The Blom Table Lamp represents a process of growth. It's aesthetic blends elements of both parametric and algorithmic design, which occurs in nature when seemingly simple building blocks (like the petals on a flower or ice-crystals in a snowflake) are repeated to create complexly beautiful forms. The lamp is made out of High Density Polyethylene, a common recyclable plastic, and reconstituted veneer wood.
A cloth covered cord provides a splash of color, and the modernist design of the “Rompitratta” switch is by legendary Italian designer Achille Castiglioni. An innovative assembly design allows for a significant reduction of the shipping size which is part of a strategy to minimize the environmental impact of the Blom table lamp. In addition, the packaging is mostly recycled and doubles as the assembly manual (yes, some assembly is required.)

Meet the designer
Splinter Seed - Sander Bakker
Splinter Seed embodies the very best of eco-conscious design. Conceived in 2010 by Dutch designer Sander Bakker, Splinter Seed creates products that are both inspired by and respectful of nature by seamlessly integrating high design with low impact processes. Sander's work blends elements of both parametric and algorithmic design, which occurs when seemingly simple building blocks (like the petals on a flower or ice-crystals in a snowflake) are repeated to create complexly beautiful forms .
The result is literally enlightening...
Process & Materials
As part of the strategy to minimize the environmental impact of their products, Splinter Seed focuses on the prudent use of materials and efficient digital manufacturing. One fantastic of example of this practice can be seen their packaging which doubles as the assembly manual.
The lamps are careful assembly by hand in the U.S.A. and made from high density polyethylene and reconstituted wood.
