Set your drink down on a piece of history. These coasters are not only inspired by the many boardwalks in New York but are actually made from genuine, salvaged pieces of the Coney Island boardwalk itself. Expertly hand crafted, these elegant, sturdy coasters allow you to bring a piece of classic NYC into your own home or bar.
A stainless steel nest, reminiscent of the handrails along the boardwalk, keeps them nice and neat when not in use.** Each coaster set is made by hand in Surname's Long Island City workshop. Please allow a minimum of 2 weeks before delivery.

Capturing the soul of New York through upcycled design
Surname Goods Co. - Timothy Skehan and Steven Bukowski
Whether transforming old planks from the Coney Island Boardwalk into beautiful coasters or salvaging wood destined for the chipper in order to craft super cool custom bike fenders, each new design by Surname begins with the materials. They are committed to sustainable design in a way that takes a fresh look at classic pieces and uses reclaimed materials from NYC to create both beauty and purpose from metal and wood which otherwise would be discarded and lost. Both talented craftsmen and avid urban cyclists, Surname's co-founders Timothy Skehan (with a background in photography and fine art) and Steve Bukoski (with a background in industrial product design) form a damn near perfect combo. Together in their Long Island City studio and workshop, they meticulously craft products that are both aesthetically elegant and ruggedly functional while managing to preserve a small piece of the city itself with everything they build.
Process & Materials
Each design by Surname Goods Co. begins with reclaimed materials sourced right here in New York City or the nearby areas (most wood comes from trees picked up in NYC that otherwise would be chipped up and discarded.) They are committed to sustainable design through considered planning and production of each and every product. SGC's desire is to create pieces that are both timeless and also unique amongst other reclaimed objects. Furthermore, they design with the production of each object in mind, with the intent to produce all of our goods either in-house or locally. All products are hand crafted using traditional wood working machines and techniques. SGC prefers to partner with other small businesses whenever possible, with the aims of strengthening the community and keeping manufacturing alive in the US.
