Bhava - Francisca Pineda and Rushali A. Sanghani

Expect compliments, lots of compliments. BHAVA is a vegan shoe line that will garner you plenty of "Where did you get those?" questions. The line, which is at once classic and modern, sources the highest quality hand-woven, organic, recycled and cruelty-free materials. The heals are made from reclaimed wood, and the hand-woven fabrics that are replacements for leather are all organic. The brand—founded by fashion designers Francisca Pineda and Rushali Sanghani—is named after the duo's passion for purity in design, as well as their shared consideration for all living beings. The result is a seamlessly stylish line of completely recycled, leather-free shoes that can compete on the street or runway with any other heal, sandal, or flat.

Process & Materials

In the fashion world, if you’re not part of the solution, chances are you’re part of the problem. It takes conscious effort to search for the right resources, manufacturers, and employees to create an alternative to the "conventional" leather and plastic shoe. Francisca and Rushali have taken the necessary extra steps to support organic farmers, use only natural dyes based from Ayurvedic principles, and incorporate traditional arts like hand weaving, and recycled and reclaimed components into every shoe.  By working closely with the individual artisans and introducing  them to markets they otherwise would not be able to access, Bhava strives to build a sustainable infrastructure and improve working conditions. Francisca is also the founder of the Ethical Fashion Academy which is committed to inspiring designers and consumers to strive for a more conscious world.
