Process & Materials
Don't let the word "minimalist" fool you. There is an awful lot of science and key design elements that go into creating each and every pair of kigo footwear. kigos feature an anatomical shape, wide toe box and a flexible, zero-drop, slip-free outsole with minimal toe-spring, a fancy way of saying that the outsoles are flat to help your body achieve optimal posture alignment with your foot resting naturally as it would if barefoot. All styles also have a low stack height, allowing your foot to feel the ground and sense your surroundings while still remaining protected.
kigo adheres to a "cradle to cradle" production philosophy, using components that are vegan, recycled, recyclable and upcyclable. Well-loved and well-worn kigos can be sent to kigo's reclaim partners, Soles4Souls or PLUS Compound Technologies, ensuring that they do not end in landfills. kigo uppers and linings are made from either CYCLEPET, REPREVE or a KALUNA BLEND, amazing eco fabrics created by breaking down plastic bottles to weave a 100% recycled textile that is strong and soft. The outsoles are constructed from either rubber with 20% post-manufacturing content and vegetable oils or HD PLUS, an alternative to plastic and rubber that can be easily recycled time and time again. kigos also are treated with eco-friendly water and stain repellents for an added layer of protection. The end result is an incredibly durable shoe that weighs an average of 4.2oz to 5.5oz, depending on style, compared to the average running/walking shoe weighing in at 12.0oz.
